Charlotte Moore grew up on the east side of Austin, Texas — back when White Austinites thought east Austin wasn’t cool.

It was. And, it was majority Black and brown people, by design.

Gentrification over the years has forced out many of the residents who helped build east Austin. The city’s Black population has steadily declined. And yet, Black Austinites remain a powerful force.

Charlotte has for years been committed to exploring how Black people are contributing to Austin’s success, and how Austin can support them, in a series she calls “Brainstorm Black.”
